I grew up in Stamsund, a tiny fishing village in Lofoten – located in the northern part of Norway. My mom worked at the local fishery and whenever I could, I would join her at work. Needless to say, fish was pretty much all we ate. As a kid I wasn’t too excited about it, but as the years passed I became obsessed with fish and would spend hours learning about the different species and how to cook them.
Years later I moved to Oslo and realized that the quality I grew up with was far superior to anything in the local markets – and that the so called «fresh fish» was usually far from fresh.
A longing for home and moms cooking led to the birth of VAAG
– a tiny fishery with big dreams.

We work with local fishermen who fish sustainably. They know where the best fish can be found, how to catch it and how it should be handled.
They fish exclusively in season, with hooks and line
– never with nets or bottom trawlers.

Henningsvær is know for its incredible nature, fresh produce, charming restaurants and great people. It also happens to be Norways best kept fishing community. The crystal clear arctic ocean breeds fish and seafood of incredible quality.

Out of quality concerns we are currently using packaging made from plastic. As we all know plastic isn’t exactly friends with the ocean and the fish that live there. We are therefor looking into alternative materials that are better for both fish and planet.
In the meantime, we kindly ask that you rinse and recycle our packaging with the rest of your plastic.
Great people doing great things in Lofoten:
